The United States government has promised to assist the Nigeria Poilce in combat training for its men with a view to containing civil disobedience that has engulfed certain parts of the country in recent times.
The American Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms Robin Sanders, who announced this gesture when she led a five-member team of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom on a visit to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ogbonna Onovo, said that the US government would also assist the Nigeria Police in training their personnel in the area of community policing.
According to Sanders, her home government was also ready to provide equipment and logistics as a way of supporting the police in combating crime in Nigeria.
In his response, the IGP assured the visitors of the willingness of the police and the country as a whole to collaborate with the US government in any area of training aimed at building the capacity of the men with a view to enhancing proactive policing.
Onovo applauded the US government for the cordial relationship between the two countries and called for deeper cooperation especially in the areas of crime prevention and control. |
